Another one for
$10 for the robot mode, $10 for the beast mode, $5 for the bust... and I guess the overhead view of the beast mode is a bonus I threw in there.
So this was fun! He asked for a character that looked like a mage, and when I looked at some of the references he sent me, I felt a butterfly (a futuristic, hyper evolved one, anyway) would make a fitting beast mode. Plus, it's just nice to have a bug Transformer that ISN'T a Predacon, for once.
Her whole gimmick is that her wings don't actually... HAVE a color. They just refract light as she moves, always shimmering with constantly changing colors, hence the name Prism. I also thought the sail on the body would be a nice touch.
So how does she transform? Well, it's pretty simple. The thorax splits apart to become the legs, each half then extending multiple times to reveal more refractive interior bits. The insect legs do the opposite, compressing three times (once in each part of the leg), then wrapping around the body, snugly. The leftover sail from the thorax wraps around her waist, while the wings move back to form a four-part cape, the two smaller parts each hanging from one of her robot mode's shoulders. The robot mode arms come out of the body as the butterfly head modes down over the chest, along with the robot mode head. interestingly, the feelers of the beast mode are her robot mode's eyebrows, one head being tucked neatly inside the other in beast mode.
And that's it. If this were a toy... there's be a LOT of translucent plastic. Probably wouldn't last more than a few years of play, oy... but at least it makes for a visually striking character.
Lemme just say... those wings took a LONG time to color. So worth it, though. This just might be one of the more beautiful character designs I've ever put to paper, and I never would've done it without Booj's stroke of genius setting off those creative juices and inspiring me. Seriously, I couldn't have come up with something like this on my own, and I'm so happy with how she's turned out.
You know what? If I ever do make a "Future Beast Wars" comic for real, I think I'll make her part of the cast. So yeah... congrats, Booj. You get to be part of the show.
That's it for now.
