Description

Sorry the lighting is so inconsistent. I guess you could say it reflects their feelings from panel to panel.

Originally, this scene was going to be much longer... until I realized we've SEEN this scene play out, before. You know, a Felaryan predator ends up almost being eaten, and SUDDENLY, they're able to sympathize with their prey because now they have an idea of what it's like to be devoured, sometimes to a point where they can longer be compelled to continue such a lifestyle.

I was planning for Sebille to spill her guts about the whole experience and spell everything out in the most by-the-numbers way, which I very well would have in an older story such as, say, Cats n' Dogs, but then I realized... that just isn't the kind of character Sebille is.

And in all honestly, I understand if some people find her bland because she doesn't "express" herself as much as Brody... but then again, Brody doesn't express himself much either, when he isn't flustered. We only understand SOME of what's going on in his mind because, well, we hear his lengthy internal monologues. With Sebille, we don't have such things to go by... so the only sense we can make of her is based on her simple, honest reactions to the things happening in scenes like... well, like the scene this wound up being.

Greg Farshtey, one of my favorite writers (it shouldn't be hard to guess why), said that you know a character has really come alive when you find yourself unable to make them DO SOMETHING THEY DON'T WANT TO DO. I love that statement.

And as little as there may SEEM to be to work with, I've found myself at that point with Sebille... and Brody.

And that's why this scene wouldn't have worked, before.

Anyway, there's a lot of ways you could read into this scene, and I usually don't spell such things out, but I feel like giving my take on it for once...

As you know by now, Brody is sick of this place. As pretty as it is, he just can't get over the eating habits of the fairies, even when Sebille goes somewhere else to do such things... and Sebille knows it! However... if she can refrain from eating people, that might make it a little easier for him to stay with her. Given his feelings, and, well, her recent experiences, that little "Thank you" from him was all the validation she needed. That alone says so much and is such a relief to her... and as short as this scene is, I think it's better for it.

That's it for today. Sorry my recent Bionicle fanart has cut into the time I SHOULD be spending on this.

Feedback is appreciated.
