As simple as it is, that first panel is one of my favorites so far. All those ships represented by lights, connected by ripples across earth's otherwise immaculate surface, says a lot about how people live in this crazy future.

What better time than for everything to go tits up?
Although I'll say this is an interesting, yet hard to believe backstory. With beaches as such popular tourist destinations, as well as high traffic areas for trade, it seems unlikely merfolk could successfully hide along any coasts in the 21st century.
