Rise of The Devilman- 71- The Devil Does Drugs

For those who are wondering, no, I'm not really into bands like The Thrill Kill Kult. I don't even like the song by itself, that much. HOWEVER... I do like it in Cool World. I think it's fitting for scenes that are freaky, like a certain scene from Metroid Revival that some of you may remember me also referencing the original song in.

So yeah... I know a lot of you Devilman fans out there have been waiting to see how I'd handle this scene, and, well, here it is. Like a lot of things in this take on Devilman, I tried to pace it and "shoot" it as I'd imagine such a scene playing out in a live action Devilman movie produced in the west in the late 70s/early 80s. The camera cutting to Akira bathed in harsh colors against an otherwise black void, the overstimulating lighting and crazy angles a la "Fear and Loathing in Ls Vegas" (which is, fittingly for Devilman, a 70s movie), the works.

I admit I kinda got a little indulgent in condemning the whole... gangsta culture. Wife beater shirts and pants that are falling down, the hand signs, twerking, all that stereotypical (yet very real) culturally corrosive junk food. What can I say? I hate that shit. But hey, the crowd in the original Devilman manga looked like a buncha people that flew in from Woodstock, so.... just keeping up with the times, you know?

Come to think of it, I should've drawn some beer cans or kegs instead of just bottles.

Don't do drugs, kids... 'cept maybe weed... but that's it. I dunno. I don't smoke it.

As for the second to last panel... yeah, guys, I'm sorry. I tried. I tried to make this huge spread with dozens upon dozens of people, like in this one scene from Ultimate Spider Man issue... 4, I think? After drawing the first dozen or so people, though... I was already burnt out. I'm just not good at drawing crowds of people... so after a while, I gave up and drew a blob of heads. Yeah. Again, sorry if it doesn't look very professional.

But anyway... watcha' guys think of how this scene has been executed? Did I pull it off? Are you freaked out, yet?
