Imagine a world, if you will, where just about everything is organic, nothing like this world of non-living objects we've constructed around ourselves. A world where things are not built, but grown.
Towers made of solid bone. Hallways like bodily tracts. Chambers like organs, machinery like complex muscles, control terminals like sensitive nerves.
A world where people are grown and designed, "birthed" from the earth like weird, placental adult babies.
This is the world presented in Scorn. And I am all up in this.
Seriously, this is some of the freakiest stuff I've ever seen, but there is something entrancing about it. It makes you wonder, "Is this earth, thousands of years after being taken over and colonized by aliens who've made us like this?" Like, clearly this stuff hasn't occurred in nature, someone MADE it this way, they designed and cultivated the new world to look like this. Is it another dimension? Is there anyone else to meet, or call "friend?" Even the firearms are tiny living animals, with teeth and pores and veins, and all they want is to be attached to something warm that gives them a purpose and a function. They probably spew globs of ignitable/explosive acid or something.
As ugly as it is, this world is remarkably clean. With all this exposed tissue everywhere, you'd think there'd be flies eating, burrowing into, and generally harassing just about everything in it, but nope. It's completely sterile and everything apparently works fine.
There's something about the character himself that's especially fascinating to me. Does he have the ability to speak orally, or does he use telepathy? How old is he? Like, a day? Who made him? Is he rebelling against the world that birthed him, or was he created to save it from impending stagnation and death? How long is his lifespan? Like, was he programmed to only live a few days, just long enough to "reboot the system" or whatever happens at the end of the game, then dissolve in a pool of shapeless biomass? Is he the last even vaguely human thing alive, the first to come along in however many centuries?
"Placental" is the right word for this, like... just look at that helmet, that membrane covering his face. Does he even HAVE a fully formed face under that? Is he comfortable, or is he in constant pain and itching? If something tore a hole in that membrane, would he survive, or would his exposure to outside elements kill him almost instantly?
Like, he looks SO FRAGILE. Making the player feel vulnerable in games like Amnesia is easy because you don't have guns and the like to defend yourself with. This guy does have guns, but his very nature makes me feel like I have to protect him from a world out to consume and absorb him back into itself. Again, he looks very fragile and exposed.
I have been waiting for someone to come along and create a world like this for a long time. Something where they go all the way with this "The world itself is alive!" concept. And here it is, and it is both ugly and beautiful.
The only problem? That I didn't do it first. XD
Yeah, this is what my THIRD Metroid fancomic was going to be about, where Samus finds herself trapped in a world just like this, with a new, "living" suit an' everything. And I still might do it someday, but if I do go ahead with it now, if I do find the time to do it, it's going to be hard not to be accused of ripping off Scorn. Just like if James Cameron ever does make a Battle Angel movie, people will think it's an Elysium ripoff, because that was released first.
Oh well. First come, first serve.
Commissions are always open. I could really use the work, guys.

Ready for commissions.
Hey, everyone. Sorry I haven't been too active lately. Truth is, I've been working on a TON of art, just haven't been uploading much of it here yet. Let's just say I could use the work at the moment. So if you're interested, I'd appreciate it. Current prices, keeping in mind it can take most of a day to finish one of these. Full body shot- $50 +$40 for each additional character +$40 for a background Comic book cover/page- $100 Feedback is appreciated.
New Lego Rewind just dropped!
This will probably be the last one of the year, depending on how things go. I have 3 Monkie Kid Megareviews to catch up on, and I can only spare so much time for videos. Pledging $5 to my Patreon page will get you the video a week early, and pledging $10 within the next 6 days will get your name added to the credits before it goes public. See you there.
Something special today!
Itch is having a "creator day" where creators like me get to keep 100% of what we make from sales (usually my cut is about 70%). If you were considering getting the Planet Ripple digitally through Itch instead of Kindle I would really appreciate it, especially today. https://nick-on-planet-ripple.itch.io/
Planet Ripple Volume 6 RELEASED!
Now you can get the print and kindle versions on Amazon, or get a PDF through Itch. Keep in mind, this is the longest book so far. The first was only 150 pages. This is about 190. Naturally, I had to raise the price a bit. Just two dollars, though. But remember! If you want a signed copy, you can upgrade your Patreon tier to $50. https://www.patreon.com/NickAnderson I went aaaallll out with this one. It's not the end of the series, more like a season 1 finale... But it is the end of some current arcs, the last book where the pirates are still the major threat to global stability. As for Minnow, she'll have to ask uncomfortable questions and reconcile things about herself, her trauma, and her world. Pulling no punches this time! Enjoy! I'm looking forward to see this in action. It kinda have a SOMA-esque vibe, but in reverse.
